U of U CAMPUS ALERT: CAMPUS ADVISORY – Measles exposure on SLC campus (4/9)
Dear University of Utah Community Member,
We are aware of another case of measles on campus, and that people in our community were exposed to the virus.
| Location | Date and Time | Instructions |
|---|---|---|
| Olpin Student Union and ASUU Offices | April 7, 2026 2:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. | If you or those you live with were here during the times listed, watch for symptoms of measles through April 28, 2026. |
Measles is an illness that spreads very easily from one person to another. It is caused by a virus that spreads through the air when a person with measles coughs or sneezes. Measles can cause serious health problems, including pneumonia, brain damage, and death.
Children under 5 years old, adults over 20 years old, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to get very sick from measles. In addition to your vaccination an N-95 mask is an effective barrier to infection.
- If you have been in any of these locations within that window of time you may have been exposed. In that case please:
Watch for symptoms for 21 days (fever, cough, runny nose, rash, red or watery eyes, and white spots in the mouth) - Check your vaccination record and ensure you have had two doses of the MMR vaccine
- Stay home for 21 days if you are not vaccinated
If you are concerned about being exposed to measles you should talk to your health care provider about your vaccination options. If you require accommodations but do not meet any of the above mentioned categories please contact the Dean of Students (students) or Human Resources (staff).
